The Permanent Suspension of Former President Donald Trump from Twitter

In January 2021, former president Donald Trump was issued a permanent suspension on Twitter after his tweets were found to have violated the social media platform’s content guidelines.

The team at Twitter further explained that no user of the platform is above its rules. They said:

.. we made it clear going back years that these accounts are not above our rules entirely and cannot use Twitter to incite violence, among other things. We will continue to be transparent around our policies and their enforcement.

In particular, the team at Twitter was referring to a series of Tweets by Donald Trump that implied he was inciting his supporters to reject the outcome of the November 2020 elections. Former President Trump had tweeted the following two statements.

“The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!”

“To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.”
