Elon Musk’s Twitter Suffers Major Outage With Global Users Unable to Log In

Popular social media platform Twitter has suffered a significant outage that has left most of its global users unable to log in. Attempts to access individual accounts are met with an error message.

Data from Downdetector, which tracks website outages, states that more than 9,000 users have reported problems with the site beginning at 12.30 pm GMT. The majority of its affected users (81%) are using the web version of Twitter, with 11% of its mobile app reporting problems.

Twitter Usage Has Been Growing Steadily Since Elon Musk Took Over

The Twitter outage is the first since Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, successfully acquired the company for $44 billion in late October. Less than a month later, Mr Musk tweeted that Twitter had hit an all-time high of active users.

The high activity on Twitter is despite the Tesla CEO slashing the company’s workforce in an attempt to reduce costs to turn around the company to a profit-making one.

Mr Musk has also introduced an $8 subscription fee for users who want a blue verification check on their profile. The easy access to verification is meant to boost its revenue at a time when the global economic climate hints at a pending recession.
