BitFlyer Co-Founder Seeks Comeback as CEO to Guide the Japanese Exchange into an IPO

Yuzo Kano, the co-founder of BitFlyer Holdings Inc., plans to return to the company as Chief Executive Officer after stepping down from the top role in 2019 at the height of Japan‘s massive crypto crackdown.

Mr Kano plans to return and guide BitFlyer into an initial public offering (IPO). He plans to share his proposal with shareholders during a meeting next month.

‘I will make it capable of fighting on the international stage,’ Mr Kano said in an interview with Bloomberg.

Mr Kano co-founded BitFlyer in 2014 and owns 40% of the company. He had last year quashed another plan to sell the exchange after he suspected that ACA partners, a Singapore-based fund, was working with current management to shut him out by convincing shareholders to sell. Mr Kano had Tweeted about the deal, saying it was yet to be closed.

He told Bloomberg that:

They wanted to get rid of me, both as a shareholder as well as the representative of a subsidiary.

It’s my responsibility to point out issues and demand improvement. I reprimand people when they cause problems, make false reports or fail to do whatever they are supposed to do.
